Concordia sneaks past Grace Academy
September 20, 2024
In Friday's non-league match, the visiting Concordia Cardinals football squad scored a close 52-46 triumph over Grace Academy .
The Griffins had a difficult time stopping the Cardinal passing attack. This was the first game without Campbell who was leading the team in tackles and was their best pass defender. The result was 347 passing yards by the Cardinals.
The Griffins were able to hold Concordia to only 32 yards rushing and to out gain them on offense by fourty yards (214-380); however, it was losing the turnover battle (3-1) and having double the penalty yards which sunk Grace.
Ethan Yassa had 163 yards rushing while Hunter Maxwell added another 146 yards. Evan Hoyt topped 100 yards passing too on 3-6 for 109 yards and a TD.
Defensively, the Griffins were led by Hunter Maxwell with 9 tackles. "It is not a good sign when your defensive backs lead the team in tackles," remissed Coach Golemon. "We simply did not have the necessary pass rush and linebacker play to win this game and we will have to improve."
Coming up next, the meet the Waco Christian Warriors (Waco, TX) in a TCAF District 2 (6 Man) match, on Friday, September 27. Grace Academy will attempt to upgrade on its 2-2 season record. The Warriors come into the match with a 4-0 record after their 60-13 non-league win over Big Springs Charter (Leakey, TX).
