Grace Academy prevails Hill Country Knights

November 15, 2024

In Friday's non-league match, the host Grace Academy football squad scored a good 52-38 triumph over the Hill Country Knights Knights.

The Griffins were sluggish after the week off and in their first game without Hunter Maxwell, their leading rusher for the season, they were unable to put the Knights away.

Ethan Yassa did a great job stepping into the lineup to replace Maxwell as he had 162 yards rushing and another 44 receiving to lead the team. Evan Hoyt was 3-7 for 97 yards and a TD as well.

The Griffins looked as though they had the game put away early in the third quarter when they scored and took a commanding 39 point lead. However, the Knights fought back and rallied for 31 second half points forcing Grace to go the distance.

"We missed Maxwell tonight," said Coach Golkemon. "Yassa is one of our best blockers and an asset on defensive and when he has to run the ball we lose productivity from not having him on the offense and defensive lines."

The Griffins are hoping to have Maxwell back for the Semi-Final game against the reigning Division 3 champions Granbury Grace Classical next week. With the loss of Maxwell, the Griffins are now down to 7 players having lost 4 players to season ending injuries.
