Grace Academy trounces Waco Christian
September 27, 2024
In Friday's league match, the host Grace Academy football squad scored a decisive 57-8 triumph over the Waco Christian Warriors.
Waco Christian entered the contest undefeated but the game was over early in the third quarter due to a smothering Griffin defense and an offense that scored on every poession with the exception of one turnover.
Grace took advantage of four opponent turnoevers including a pick six by Josh Moore and and a scoop and score by Ethan Yassa. Waco Christian was held to 177 total yards and only 29 yards rushing. The defense was led by Josh Moore and Isaiah Gonzales who had 5 tackles each.
Offensively, the Griffins were paced by Hunter Maxwell's 184 rushing yards and 5 TDs. Evan Hoyt was good on all of his extra points which helped to put the game out of reach in the 38 points scored by Grace in the second quarter.
"The pass rush was consistant all night and led to some poor decisions by the Wace QB," said Coach Golemon. "It was good to see better team defense as this has been a weakness given our early season ending injuries to key defensive players."
The (3-2) will now prepare for their match against Summit Christian Academy (Cedar Park, TX). The Eagles come into the non-league match with a 2-3 record. In their last match, Summit Christian Academy was routed by Valor Preparatory Academy (Waco, TX), 72-51, in a non-league match.
