Bastrop Tribe entered into the game against the Austin Royals sporting a seven game win streak having defeated top ranked St. Stephens on the road the previous week. The question of a let down was answered when Chuy Gonzales took the opening onside kickoff back for a touchdown.
A quick turnover on downs and Joshua McAlister ran 52 yards for one of his two TDs on the night. McAlister led the team in rushing with 112 yards on 5 carries while Elijah Rendon added another 49 yards on 4 carries with another TD.
Chandler Golemon passed for 68 yards and two touchdowns to McAlister and Christian Conner as Tribe rolled up 246 yards of offense in the first half.
The real story line of the game was the Tribe special teams and defense. Matthew McNabb continued his impressive season going 8 for 8 on extra points and his six touchbacks on kickoffs kept the Royals starting from drives from their own 20.
The defense held the Royals to a negative 7 yards rushing with five tackles for loss between Tony Eastty and Ari Gonzales. Without the run, the Royals became one dimensional and had only 62 yards of total offense and one first down.
The game ended at halftime with the Warriors up 64-8 and their unbeaten streak moving to 8-0 on the year.
