Coming off a 9-4 season in 2021 and an 1-3 start, the Warriors were ready to get on the winning track starting week one. This was the first meeting between the programs and it showcased the power running of Tribe (408 yards rushing) and the spread passing attack of St. Joseph (227 yards).
In the end, the Warriors wore down the home team and the final score was 64-24. Tribe's rushing attack was led by Joshua McAlister who had 233 yards and 4 TDs on 14 carries. Elijah Rendon also contributed with 129 yards on 8 carries and 3 TDs. Together the duo was unstoppable behind a line which blew the opponents off the ball all night.
Defensively, the Tribe gave up over 200 yards passing and it brought back some of the same problems they faced last season with the pass. Chandler Golemon led the team in tackles with 7 and almost all of them in the second half when he was moved to defense the opposing team's quarterback. The increased pressure in the second half led to St. Joeseph scoring only 6 points.
The game was played at Allen Academy and conveniently the home team was able to get a great scouting opportunity as they will tee it up next week in Bastrop.
